Another IRA Top 10 for Goldesberry at Angell Park; Wilmot Up Next

The IRA Sprint Cars once again lost half of a doubleheader weekend due to rain. This time it was the Road America Challenge at Plymouth that fell afoul of the weather. However, Jordan Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team charged through the weekend’s lone feature at Angell Park Speedway’s annual Norm Nelson Classic.

"We still need to be better in qualifying, or at least get better pill draws." Goldesberry said with a laugh.

The night’s qualifying session slowed down significantly the longer it went on with the track’s grip deteriorating, and the 2022 IRA Champion was on the wrong side of the coin.

"Qualifying buried us in our heat race but moved up a couple spots to at least get a halfway decent starting spot in the A Main." Goldesberry stated. The #65 moved up 2 positions from 5th to 3rd in its heat race and lined up 13th for the 30-lap feature.

Once again, the Rockstar Energy Drink machine made up ground in the A Main, gaining 6 positions from 13th to 7th at the checkered flag, but Goldesberry admits it could have been a different result should luck have been on the team’s side.

“We had great speed again in the feature.” Goldesberry said. “We just need to find a way to start a couple rows further up to have a good shot at getting back on the podium and competing for wins. If the track hadn’t rubbered towards the end of the feature, I definitely think a top 5 finish was there for us, but we’ll take another top 10."

The 7th place effort vaulted Goldesberry to 3rd in the IRA points standings behind 2x IRA Champion Jake Blackhurst and Sunday’s feature winner Scotty Thiel, and ahead of this year’s "Founder’s Night" winner and 2x IRA champion Scotty Neitzel.

Next up, the Springfield, IL based team will return to the Wilmot Raceway in IRA Sprints action this Saturday, July 15th for a Father’s Day special event. Tickets for this weekend’s event are available through the My Race Pass app or on the track’s website, and as always, the entire night will be broadcast LIVE on FloRacing.
