Thrilling Nights at Jackson Motorplex Produce Multiple Different Winners

With the Interstate Racing Association Bumper to Bumper Outlaw Sprint Series season rapidly approaching its end, teams traveled north to the land of 10,000 lakes and the Jackson Motorplex for the Casey’s General Store Open Wheel Nationals. The Winged 410 teams were joined by the Wisconsin wingLESS teams for the huge two day show.

Night one saw 30 winged cars and 30 wingLESS cars take to the 2/5ths mile track. Bill Balog set fast time in the winged car while Greg Olson was fastest in the wingLESS division.

Heat race action saw Tasker Phillips, Mark Dobmeier and Scotty Neitzel all pick up wins in the 410s while Tim Cox, Ryan Zielski and Jake Kouba won the crate motored wingLESS heats.

Jody Rosenboom and Natalie Klemko picked up the 2B main victories and with that it was time for feature events on night 1.

The winged 410 A main saw Jake Blackhurst continue to impress behind the wheel of the Oz Motorsports 73, taking the initial lead. Travis Whitney and Skyler Prohaska would challenge Blackhurst, and lap two saw them both pass the 73, but Blackhurst quickly moved back around them and into the lead once again. Blackhurst would lead until lap 11 when 4th starting Bill Balog would muscle past him and take the lead. Balog would settle into the lead, but with a handful of laps remaining, one of the longest standing rivalries in the Midwest would be reignited, as Terry McCarl worked his way into second position and had his sights set on Balog’s lead. A yellow flag would set up a green white checkered battle between the duo. The pair would trade slide jobs and the lead for the entirety of the green white checkered. As the flags waved, it was the north pole nightmare Bill Balog victorious over McCarl. Mark Dobmeier and Austin McCarl finished third and fourth respectively while Jake Blackhurst finished in fifth.

For the wingLESS drivers, Derek Crane took the initial lead, but after just one lap in front of the field, Zack Raidart would move past Crane's 19k and into the lead. Raidart never looked back, picking up the victory, his fifth of the season, in his first visit to the Jackson Motorplex over fourth starting Tim Cox and Derek Crane. Jimmy Kouba finished in the fourth spot, and the top five was rounded out by Johnny Parsons III.

On Saturday the teams in both divisions once again took the the beautiful Jackson Motorplex for a great night of racing.

Lynton Jeffry set quick time in the winged 410s while Ryan Zielski topped the board in the wingLESS class.

Heat races were won by Austin McCarl, Travis Whitney and Mark Dobmeier with wings on and Ryan Zielski, Jake Kouba and Bryan Roach without the wings.

With a couple of cars dropping out, the 410s forgone the B main, and Shawn Swim won the wingLESS B setting the stage for two high octane feature events

Austin McCarl piloting his 17A took the early lead over Chris Martin and took control of the field. Behind Austin, Terry McCarl quickly worked into second with the intent of grabbing a win away from his son, but his work would not be made easy as Justin Henderson had worked from as far back as eigth early in the race into third and began challenging McCarl. Henderson would take second from Terry McCarl for a brief period, but was unable to keep it, as the Destiny Motorsports 4 worked back into second. Father Terry had nothing for his son Austin as the checker flag flew though, giving the McCarl family a one two finish. Mark Dobmeier brought home a third place finish over Friday night’s winner Bill Balog, and Justin Henderson was regulated to a fifth place finish.

Allen Hafford in the Hopf Farms 38 took the lead early in the wingLESS feature, but faced challenges from the Bumper to Bumper backed 01 of Chris Dodd. Dodd worked past the white and blue 38 and into the lead. Behind the leaders, sixth starting Zach Raidart, looming to defend his win from one night prior and worked his way into third, and then second chasing down Chris Dodd. Dodd proved to strong around the bottom of the track though, as Raidart ripped the cushion. With a late race caution, it was going to be a battle for first between Raidart and Dodd. As the Checkered flag fell, Dodd was able to hold off Raidart to claim victory. Raidart finished in second followed by seventh starting Jake Kouba and Allen Hafford. Bryan Roach rounded out the top five.
