Balog Scores Win Number 1 of 2018

Bill Balog led all 30 laps around the 1/4th mile oval 141 Speedway in Maribel, Wisconsin. Jake Blackhurst and 2016 IRA champion Jeremy Schultz rounded out the podium.

24 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association winged 410 sprint cars signed in to compete on night two of the Memorial Day doubleheader weekend. Hanna City, Illinois’ Jake Blackhurst set quick time in his Kitchen Cooked 25 machine. Scotty Thiel would time in 2nd ahead of Jeremy Schultz and Mike Reinke. Ben Schmidt timed his Ozzie Motorsports 73 in 5th.

Heat race number one saw pole sitter Scotty Neitzel jump out to the lead. Neitzel would bring his orange 2w across the checkered flag in first ahead of quick qualifier Blackhurst and Mike Reinke. Matt Vandervere who stayed up all night building a new car after last night’s crash would finish in the 4th position over Scott Beirtzer.
Heat race 2 would be dominated by crowd favorite Ben Schmidt. Brandon McMullen would finish 2nd behind Schmidt. Scotty Thiel brought his 64 machine across in 3rd and Bill Wirth and Wayne Modjeski would complete the top 5.
The 3rd heat race would be won by Steve Meyer followed by Jeremy Schultz and Bill Balog. Michael Decker moved from his 7th place starting position to 4th and Kris Spitz was 5th.

The A main saw Bill Balog utilize his 2nd starting position to grab the early lead. Jake Blackhurst settled into 2nd and Mike Reinke, Steve Meyer, and Jeremy Schultz battled for 3rd. Scotty Thiel would bring the caution out early after making hard contact with the turn 4 wall, and would be unable to restart. Balog held the lead on the restart while Schultz took command of third. When the checkered flag finally fell, it was Bill Balog standing victorious over Jake Blackhurst and Jeremy Schultz. Mike Reinke backed up last night’s 3rd place finish with a strong 4th place run and Michael Decker recorded a career best 5th place finish.
