Accident Sidelines Tony Stewart's Visit to Kenosha Co Fair
For immediate release: Aug. 7, 2103
(Wilmot, WI) Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart was injured in an accident with five laps to go during a sprint car race at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Monday night.
A lapped car had spun and stopped and Stewart had nowhere to go. His car hit the lapped car which flipped Stewart’s sprint car. He was assisted from his car by emergency officials, transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery to repair a broken leg. Reports indicate that he suffered a broken tibia and fibula in the crash.
Stewart will not be driving in his weekend’s Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International and a backup driver will be called in to fill his seat. Regretfully, he will not be able to race in the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series event, Aug 16th at the Wilmot Raceway.
The always exciting IRA Outlaw Sprints will still be a feature in the Aug. 16-17 event as well as Modifieds & 4’s on Friday, and Mini Sprints and Street Stocks Saturday.
A Meet and Greet with Tony Stewart scheduled at the Kenosha County Fair was also tentatively scheduled, though it’s extremely doubtful if Stewart will be able to attend. He previously competed with IRA in Plymouth, WI earlier this season and enjoyed himself enough to the point Wilmot was added. He has been an absolute professional in regards to his dirt track schedule and he will make every attempt to make good on his visit. However respectfully Tony’s health is the first priority to us and his family, friends and fans want him to get well as soon as possible.
Stay up to date on the Aug. 16- 17 race on www.wilmotraceway.com and www.irasprints.com follow Wilmot Raceway and IRA on Facebook.
